Noted Indian Space Research Scientist (Retired), Educationist and soft skill trainer, Dr. T.P. Sasikumar, conducted a soft skill session for the faculty heads, in charges, secondary and Senior Secondary students of Indian School Salalah on 7th and 8th of October. Dr. Sasikumar is known for his multifaceted skills and in depth knowledge of a wide range of fields which include Veda, Sanskrit, Kerala martial arts, Mathematics, technology management and remote sensing. Apart from these skills, he is a well known film critique and Yoga Guru. His passion for teaching and training young and adults alike is known to many who know him personally.

On 7th October, the session for the faculty heads and in charges began with a welcome address by Chidambaram Ramasamy, HOD English who welcomed the guest speaker, Dr.T.P.Sasikumar, the President of the school management committee, Mr.Ram Santhanam and other esteemed members of SMC. After the welcome, Mr. Ramasamy introduced the guest speaker to the audience. Dr.T.P.Sasikumar in his address expressed his happiness to be in the school for the session and he said that teaching is his inner passion in spite of being a scientist for nearly two decades. Since 2009, the speaker has interacted with lakhs of students and teachers and shared his interesting experiences that would motivate the audience.
In his advice for the faculty of teachers, he asked the teachers to inspire their students so that they shall aspire. He also said the students should be educated to gain knowledge and not jobs. While talking about the teaching methodology, the speaker felt that a student should know how to read a newspaper and he also highlighted the importance of newspaper knowledge in facing competitive exams. The talk was followed by an interesting interactive session, where the guest speaker answered the queries of the teachers. Dr. Debashish Bhattacharya, member of SMC, in his vote of thanks, expressed his gratitude for the speaker’s valuable time with the faculty heads and how he had been a source of inspiration to all those who attended the session.
The session for the secondary students began with welcome address by Helen Terese of class 10th. In her address she welcomed Dr. Sasikumar for visiting Indian School Salalah, which is far away from the capital region, to share his knowledge with them. She thanked the School Management Committee for ensuring to arrange interactive sessions for the students with great scientists and charismatic personalities from time to time which have broadened their horizons. The welcome address was followed by a brief introduction of the recourse person by school vice principal, Mrs. Omana Mathews. Mrs. Mathews gave a gist of his interaction and talk with the  Heads of various academic departments of the school. She gave a hint on how interesting and beneficial the session would be which turned out to be true to the core.

During the first session for the secondary school students, he began with the humorous side of the life to make the atmosphere lighter. From then onwards, the students sailed along with him and they realized how learning can be made lighter, easier and funny, provided they change their attitude, approach and adapt a few easy tricks. The tips on group learning appealed to one and all present there. His full form for LIFE- Learn in Full Enjoyment- was appreciated by everyone. He was emphatic about one’s choice of friends. To convince the students, he gave the example of Mahabharata, the great Indian Epic. Dr. Sasikumar touched on many subjects which included Maths, Science, Social Science and Literature. He made a mention of the advancement of geography and science as early as the Vedic period and stressed upon the need to know our past to progress rapidly. He highlighted the everyday application of science since ancient time, such as reducing the body language by holding water in palm before bath. His profound knowledge in all the areas he dealt with helped in continuing the session without losing momentum. The first session concluded with vote of thanks proposed by Hridith Sudev of class 10.
The session for the senior secondary students began with a welcome address by Miss Deborah Julius of class 11. The Assistant Vice Principal, Mr.S.Srinivasan addressed the audience and introduced the Guest of Honour and termed the session as going to be “an entirely different experience”. Miss Rizwana, an alumni of ISS while sharing her experience with Dr. T.P. Sasikumar stated that her association with him was a metamorphic one.
The very first greeting of Dr. T.P. Sasikumar began with a “Namaskaram” that harbingered a lot many ideals and principles to follow in his speech.  The next 120 minutes, which for any student might seem to be a prolonged time, turned out to be untiringly delightful.  He advocated the students to make ‘IAS’- Immediate Academic Success through Inspire Aspire Success, the principal objective in one’s life.  He exhorted them to share knowledge and be a continuous provider of wisdom so as to receive it manifold.   He urged the zealous young buzz to grab the gift of the gab and asserted on the importance of improving one’s vocabulary, language and writing skills.  He also guided the students to increase their concentration, awaken their hearts, follow healthy habits and learn from each and every experience in life.  An expert in multifarious fields, Dr. T.P. Sasikumar captivated the attention of the gathering with humourous examples, Sanskrit shlokas from Vedas, verses in Malayalam and historical anecdotes that made the session even more interesting and thought-provoking.
A question-answer session at the end of the lecture helped the students clear their doubts. As a token of love and affection, Mr.Ram Santhanam, President of SMC, presented a memento to Dr.T.P.Sasikumar.  The President of the SMC, Mr. Ram Santhanam expressed his gratitude and Master Joel Nithilan Bhaskar of Class XI proposed the vote of thanks.  The motivation Dr.T.P.Sasikumar provided throughout the session was hovering around the auditorium.  The students of Indian School Salalah did carry home a message – ‘one’s life should be worth living it’.
